July 4, 2017 Independence Day On Tuesday, July 4, at 10 a.m., join Fort Laurens Museum for a ceremony honoring the sacrifices of the soldiers stationed at the Fort. The ceremony will take place at the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot, and will include a guest speaker, a color guard, honor guard, and a wreath laying. July 8-9, 2017 Revolution on the Tuscarawas -  Brigade of the American Revolution reenactment -  Ready, Aim, Fire! Travel back in time and spend a weekend at Fort Laurens during Revolution on the Tuscarawas: Revolutionary War Encampment and Reenactment. On Saturday, July 8, and Sunday, July 9, explore British and Continental camps, meet soldiers from both sides of the conflict, learn about early American life, and more! Kids can enjoy musket drills, colonial American games, and crafts throughout the event. Tours of Fort Laurens Museum and grounds will run during both days. To close out the event, watch a mock battle for American Independence. Admission for the event is $10/for adults and $5 for children 12 & under. July 29, 2017  Sons of the American Revolution Ceremony at Tomb of the Unknown Patriot   Join Sons of the American Revolution chapters from around the country for a ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot at Fort Laurens on Saturday, July 29. This ceremony will include a keynote address, a color and honor guard, and a wreath laying. It is free and open to the public to attend.

 

Aug.12, 2017 On Saturday, August 12, Fort Laurens Museum will host the 4th Jog for Logs 5k Fun Run & Walk! Race down the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail while soldiers from the American Revolution warn you of dangers along the path and cheer you towards your goal. All proceeds from the event benefit the ongoing mission of Fort Laurens to interpret and preserve the history of the site. Participants who pre-register for the race will receive a commemorative race t-shirt. Registration is $15 per participant. Discounted registration fees are available for military members, fire, police, and EMTs with proper ID. All pre-registrations must be turned in by August 5, 2017. Aug. 12, 2017 TBD      Several speakers and programs throughout the day Commemorate 100 years of Fort Laurens as a state memorial with this community celebration! Throughout the day, enjoy tours of the museum and grounds, speakers in the auditorium, nature and history walks along the Towpath, and much more. Families are welcome to participate in canal boat races, colonial kids games and crafts, as well as a Dressed for Battle timeline where visitors can interact with soldiers from American conflicts from the Revolutionary War through World War I. As a way of thanking the community for a great 100 years, this entire event is FREE! Oct. 14, 2017  Archaeology DayDid you know that October is Ohio Archaeology Month? Celebrate with Fort Laurens on Saturday, October 14, and explore local and Ohio Archaeology. Learn secrets of the trade from archaeologist who have worked on sites around the state, listen to stories of archaeology done at Fort Laurens, and learn how to use some of the tools of the craft. Visitors are welcome to participate in a mock archaeology dig and can take home any treasures they find. The program is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Admission price includes all event activities and tours of the museum and grounds. Oct 20-21, 2017 Trick or Treaty Lantern Tours - Tour the dark grounds by lantern light and listen to the haunting tales of the ghosts of Fort Laurens. American and British soldiers haunt the grounds, looking for lost souls like themselves. Tours begin at 7:30 p.m. and leave the museum every 15 minutes.
